Fostering a cat in Tbilisi for the first time: what must be agreed before day one?

By Julia C. · HAV HAV· 5 Aug 2026, 01:27

A temporary home can turn into a stressful mess when nobody has agreed who pays for the vet, who provides food, how long the stay may last or what happens if the original plan fails. Foster carers and rescue volunteers: what do you put in writing before the cat arrives? Include isolation from resident pets, transport, photos for adoption posts and an emergency contact. Topic prepared by the HAV HAV Community team. Add first-hand details and keep private addresses and personal data out of public replies.

I would add a clear end date plus a review date. 'Only for a little while' is not a plan when an adopter cancels.

If there are resident cats, a separate room or genuinely secure temporary zone should be agreed before arrival.

Please say who supplies a carrier and litter tray. Those small items often delay an urgent foster placement.

It also helps to decide who answers messages from potential adopters. The foster should not suddenly become the whole adoption team.

A foster should receive known medical and behaviour information before accepting the animal, not after a problem appears.
